چکیده

The quantised charges x of four dimensional stringy black holes may be assigned to elements of an integral Freudenthal triple system whose automorphism group is the corresponding U-duality and whose U-invariant quartic norm ∆(x) determines the lowest order entropy. Here we introduce a Freudenthal duality x→ x̃, for which ̃̃ x = −x. Although distinct from U-duality it nevertheless leaves ∆(x) invariant. However, the requirement that x̃ be integer restricts us to the subset of black holes for which ∆(x) is necessarily a perfect square. The issue of higher-order corrections remains open as some, but not all, of the discrete U-duality invariants are Freudenthal invariant. Similarly, the quantised charges A of five dimensional black holes and strings may be assigned to elements of an integral Jordan algebra, whose cubic norm N(A) determines the lowest order entropy. We introduce an analogous Jordan dual A, with N(A) necessarily a perfect cube, for which A = A and which leaves N(A) invariant. The two dualities are related by a 4D/5D lift. ∗[email protected][email protected][email protected] §[email protected] 1 ar X iv :0 90 3. 55 17 v2 [ he pth ] 3 A pr 2 00 9

Jordan Algebras and Extremal Black Holes

We review various properties of the exceptional Euclidean Jordan algebra of degree three. Euclidean Jordan algebras of degree three and their corresponding Freudenthal triple systems were recently shown to be intimately related to extremal black holes in N = 2, d = 4 homogeneous supergravities. Using a novel type of eigenvalue problem with eigenmatrix solutions, we elucidate the rich matrix geo...

Bifurcation of Plasma Balls and Black Holes to Lobed Configurations

At high energy densities any quantum field theory is expected to have an effective hydrodynamic description. When combined with the gravity/gauge duality an unified picture emerges, where gravity itself can have a formal holographic hydrodynamic description. This provides a powerful tool to study black holes in a hydrodynamic setup. We study the stability of plasma balls, holographic duals of S...

The phase transition of corrected black hole with f(R) gravity

In this letter, we consider static black hole in f(R) gravity. We take advantage from corrected entropy and temperature and investigate such black hole. Finally, we study the $ P - V $ critically and phase transition of corrected black hole with respect to entropy and temperature. Here also, we obtain the heat capacity for the static black hole in $ f(R) $ gravity. This calculation help us...

Supersymmetric Black Holes

The effective action of N = 2, d = 4 supergravity is shown to acquire no quantum corrections in background metrics admitting super-covariantly constant spinors. In particular, these metrics include the Robinson-Bertotti metric (product of two 2dimensional spaces of constant curvature) with all 8 supersymmetries unbroken. Another example is a set of arbitrary number of extreme Reissner-Nordström...

Killing Tensors and a New Geometric Duality

We present a theorem describing a dual relation between the local geometry of a space admitting a symmetric second-rank Killing tensor, and the local geometry of a space with a metric specified by this Killing tensor. The relation can be generalized to spinning spaces, but only at the expense of introducing torsion. This introduces new supersymmetries in their geometry. Interesting examples in ...
